Artist's Statement

Background and Acknowledgements.

Since commencing my education at the University of Newcastle, ten years ago, I have focused on pursuing a career in art and design. As technology changed through the 1990's, and became more accessible, I have been incorporating digital technology into my artwork. As an exhibiting artist I like to have access to a broad range of tools and techniques and I am continually upgrading my skill base and extending my knowledge through research. I exhibit work based in the areas of print media, digital photography and mixed media. I have an exhibition record of eight years standing which includes group and solo exhibitions as well as various international exhibitions. My most recent solo show was an exhibition of digital photographs in Shanghai, China. I was selected to show my work at the International Works on Paper Fair, Fox Studios, Sydney in 1999. I hold a Masters of Multimedia Design, a Masters in Visual Arts, a Postgraduate Diploma in Printmedia, and a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts.

My current research interests include the various typographical forms of the written languages belonging to minority cultures within China. In the past five years I have worked in four universities and colleges in Australia, the U.K. and China. I have ongoing research relating to my experience in China and Southeast Asia and my current exhibition at Collingwood Gallery reflects this.

My work is included in collections at the Regent Street Gallery, Sydney, Australia, Save the Children Fund, Sydney, Australia, BizArt Gallery, Shanghai, China, Aura Gallery, Shanghai, China and various private collections in Australia, Canada, China, and the U.K. Prizes I have won are the Design Competition for Save the Children Fund and the Blackbird Cafe Art Prize in Sydney.

I would like to acknowledge and thank Collingwood Gallery for their support of my work. I also acknowledge and thank John Farrow as the photographer of my work for this exhibition.
